Where is the class teacher in Vientiane Generation Z difficult?
This year is Chen Hai's ninth year as a class teacher. He has taken 3 senior high school students and is now a second-year Chinese teacher and class teacher of a middle school in Handan City, Hebei Province. He is looking forward to stepping down as "class teacher" soon.
"It's best to step down next year," he said. "It's too difficult!"
As small as student attendance, clothing hairstyle check, homework receipt, and to deal with various assessments, inspections, and student safety, home-school conflicts, and pressure to study, etc., in Chen Hai's words, "big and small things in the class No head teacher cares. " It is often the earliest to come and late to work. The head teacher is also called the busiest, most troublesome and most tedious group of people in the school. In the office after dinner, most of the class teachers in each class "big eyes and small eyes", "You haven't left!"
There is a saying, "If you haven't been a class teacher, you don't really have to be a teacher"-the class teacher is the person who contacts the students the most, and is often the person who is closest to the students and has the deepest memory of the students after graduation for many years. Every year, young teachers are eager to try and take the post of head teacher, but many head teachers are tired and eager to flee.
Recently, reporters from China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily went into the group nearest to the students, paid attention to their living conditions, and felt their pressure and burden up close.
Difficult Gen Z
Today's primary and secondary schools are the land of the post-00s generation. They are called "Generation Z", also known as the Internet generation and the Internet generation.
Taking Chen Hai's experience of taking three senior high school students as an example, he feels that it is more difficult than one session now.
"Now the living conditions of students are getting better and better, at least there is no need to worry about food and clothing. Some students are relatively lacking in motivation to learn, and they will have a mentality: Anyway, if I learn well, I can survive." Chen Hai said, while another On the one hand, students can access a variety of information from the Internet and are affected by many aspects of society. The environment in which students grow up is not as simple as before, which also weakens teachers' influence on students.
Facing this situation of students, other teachers may not care, but the head teacher must manage it.
A while ago, I saw a student in another class smoking on the campus. Chen Hai couldn't help but stop. As a result, the students said disdainfully, "What's your matter?"
Chen Hai was about to continue his theory with the student, but was interrupted by the student, "No matter how much you do, be careful with your knife."
Hearing this, Chen Hai felt "a little embarrassed" and had to call the student's class teacher, but he could not help but feel a sense of powerlessness. "Originally, the management student teacher was not burdened, and now I dare not manage it. Apart from preaching There seems to be no better way. If you do n’t listen again, then I will say the second time, the third time and the fourth time ... ”
This is not how Chen Hai feels alone.
"Now some parents have an unprincipled addiction to their children, for fear of their children being lost, sometimes there is a little thing in the school, and social opinion is one-sided, thinking that it is the responsibility of the school and the teacher, and sometimes even disregarding the right and wrong." Liu Rui told the China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily that it was under the influence of such family and public opinion that some children became "little bullies" in school.
This year, Liu Ruixin took a class. It didn't take long to discover that there was such a "little bully" in the class: often bullying classmates, usually using fists to resolve conflicts with classmates. The student's mother is a university teacher and her father is a police school teacher. "Parents are Kochi and should communicate well." With this judgment, Liu Rui called his classmate's mother.
What Liu Rui didn't expect was that when the child's performance was told to the mother, the mother said, "Have a killer? Is it a killer? Since we didn't break it, we don't interfere with him. Which child did he hit? Let that child Call back, the teacher will not let that or that, it will suppress the child's nature ... "
As Liu Rui said, the children of Generation Z have been armed to the teeth with various information, coupled with the doting of their parents, many head teachers have encountered difficulties in management that their predecessors have never encountered. Faced with such a situation, many class teachers are very entangled: "Never mind, parents are unwilling, children are unwilling; regardless of it, their conscience can't handle it." Liu Rui said that many teachers are at the risk of "thundering" working.
How can it be less stressful?
Unlimited magnification responsibility
Wu Jianjun, the head teacher of the secondary school affiliated to Lanzhou University in Gansu Province, has been at work at almost 7 a.m. If there is no other accident, he starts the day-to-day daily management work from the time attendance, checking the receipt and delivery of the homework and health status, attending classes, performing exercises, staring at self-study, preparing lessons, changing homework, supervising the duty, and home-school communication ... it is non-stop.
But at the same time, as a school administrator, the class teacher has a lot of "unexpected" things. For example, unexpected superior inspections, sports meets every semester, cultural performances, disease prevention and control, fire drills and other activities, as well as various information, materials, and forms from the provinces, cities, and counties that need to be submitted statistically. Wait, the task is very tedious. Ke Ning, a class teacher of a primary school in Leizhou City, Guangdong Province, has counted more than 320 work documents that he submitted in a semester. But some of them made him feel unnecessary. "Like" illegal fundraising "asking us to provide clues, is this asking us to go outside to find out?"
However, for many class teachers, the complicated daily work is not the most tiring for them.
"The head teacher's infinite responsibilities are really like mountains, and they are laid on the head teacher," said Chen Hai. "Students' safety, grades, and various evaluations, etc., are the responsibility of the head teacher in any case."
Unlike in the past, which focused purely on the safety of students, "there are more and more children with psychological problems, which will test the class teacher more, usually work more meticulously and spend more time to understand the students." Shihezi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Kang Jia, the head teacher of a middle school, told reporters that since he was the head teacher, he basically turned on 24 hours. "If a child has anything to do, teachers in all subjects will look for the head teacher. Parents will also look for the head teacher. ".
"A student in the class had an awkward relationship with their parents at one time. When the two couldn't talk to each other, the parents called me." Xing Zhenglong, a class teacher in a middle school in Beijing, said that it was already more than 11 o'clock at night. Parents quarreled with their children for a while. Call over the phone, complain to the teacher, and then continue to talk with the child, and then call over again ... "Parents probably think that our teacher does not need to deal with their own affairs at night. Can such things be handled the next day?"
In addition to the pressure from schools, parents, and students, today's class teachers also face greater social pressure. For example, some things that could be solved on campus were magnified infinitely by society or public opinion. Especially in the era of highly developed media, any little things may be amplified and fermented on the Internet.
Some time ago, there was a student fight in Chen Hai's class, and the parents of both sides refused to spare. Later, media workers also heard the news. At that time, Chen Hai opened his eyes every day and wanted to solve this problem. He kept mediation between the police station, the school, and the parents of both parties.
This is not so much the pressure of the group of head teachers, but rather the projection of the anxiety of society, parents, students and other groups on the head teacher. After all, the head teacher is the front-line executive of various management systems, and also the school management, parents, A communication bridge between students and society.
"Relieving Burden" Can't Just Rely on Schools
Some people think that the head teacher is really worried, but there is a fee for the head teacher! But how many people are willing to sacrifice all their time for the extra class teacher fees ranging from 500 yuan to 1,000 yuan each month?
"If you don't work as a class teacher, you can at least flexibly sit in class, and some holidays can also be closed normally. When you are a class teacher, you will especially envy those who are not the class teacher." Originally, at the end of the last semester, Chen Hai did not plan to be a class teacher. There are 13 head teachers in the same grade as Chen Hai, and 7 like him.
Before the start of the new semester, the principal was anxious and called the teachers one by one. Chen Hai has received three calls from the principal. It can be said that "justice the truth and show affection." Even the principal has to personally come to the door to persuade him to continue to be the class teacher. Chen Hai finally agreed, but now "has been worn away without any corners, just seek stability and not fall behind." If he can, he just hopes that he can step down as the "teacher" next year. "If you continue to do so, you really can't support it."
Not long ago, Dong Qi, the president of Beijing Normal University, revealed a set of survey data for fourth and eighth class head teachers at the "Education and Mental Health" forum of the Fifth China Education Innovation Achievements Charity Expo: I feel exhausted after work and do not want to do anything The 4th grade head teacher is 58.7%, the 8th grade head teacher is 64.8%; the 4th grade head teacher who feels physically and mentally tired while working is 39.9%, and the 8th grade head teacher is 41.6%.
"From a social perspective, the whole society must foster a culture of respect for education, not deify teachers, or degrade teachers." Wu Jianjun said, "For the profession of teachers, the most important thing is a good atmosphere. Do any job It ’s not easy. Being a class teacher is even more difficult, so it requires some understanding from society. "
However, in the eyes of many class teachers, letting the class teacher do only what the teacher should do is the key to reducing the burden.
"Any education problem is closely related to social problems. Educational problems cannot be disconnected from society. It is impossible to do education simply by closing the door." Xing Zhenglong said that education cannot be separated from society and does not mean that many things in society can be directly pulled to campus. "In addition to saying that, how much of those evaluation forms are directly related to the teaching of the school? Therefore, the strength of the school alone is not enough to solve the problem of excessive teacher pressure."
Chen Hai has a similar idea. He hopes that the school can optimize management, reduce as few dispensable work arrangements as possible, and "decompress" the head teacher. For example, you can set up a student information database, and don't let the class teacher count the information of students and their parents over and over; at the same time, increase the number of full-time departments to discipline students. "There are already such departments in middle schools that deal with student fights, The class teacher can assist in absenteeism and other activities. "
Recently, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued "Several Opinions on Reducing the Burden of Teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools and Further Creating a Good Environment for Education and Teaching." This document, known as "Twenty Teachers' Burdens," hit the pain points of the heavy burden of teachers in primary and middle schools, and explicitly proposed that there should be fewer inspections, assessments, assessments, social affairs entering the campus, and report filling.
Chen Hais are looking forward to the implementation of this document as soon as possible, and look forward to "the work of the class teacher will not be so difficult."
