At the 2nd China Nonferrous Metals Industry Annual Economic Forum held a few days ago, Chen Quanxun, president of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, said that despite the turbulent international situation this year, China ’s nonferrous metal industry has made steady progress and continued to maintain steady development. In 2020, it will focus on improving the basic capabilities of the industry, break through the bottleneck of independent innovation, and actively explore in the fields of aviation materials and semiconductor materials, and strive to make progress in several key links.
From the perspective of industry operation, from January to October this year, China's 10 non-ferrous metals output was 48.15 million tons, an increase of 4.6% year-on-year; although the average domestic spot prices of copper, aluminum, lead, and zinc fell by 6.4%, 3.1%, and 12.3% year-on-year respectively. And 13.2%, but 7,997 companies above the designated size achieved 4.5 trillion yuan in main business revenue, an increase of 5.5% year-on-year. The industry's investment in fixed assets is generally the same as the previous year. With the increasing investment in mining and dressing, especially environmental protection, the investment structure has continued to optimize.
From the perspective of enterprise development, whether it is central enterprises such as Chinalco, China Minmetals, CNMC, or local state-owned enterprises such as Western Mining, Jinchuan Group, and Zijin Mining, as well as private enterprises such as Weiqiao, Hailiang, and Everest. Focusing on the main business, optimizing the layout, improving management, strengthening international cooperation, and other measures to enhance global competitiveness and become a force to promote the development of the world non-ferrous metal industry. From a strategic position, although China's economy has shifted from a high-speed growth stage to a high-quality development stage, the demand for bulk raw materials has also shifted from a period of sustained and rapid growth to a stage of slight growth, but non-ferrous metals remain the foundation and pillar of the national economy.
From the perspective of innovation development, innovation leadership has increasingly become the consensus and conscious action of enterprises and industries. On the one hand, companies have increased their investment in science and technology, focusing on improving quality and efficiency, and practicing green development. Look at transformation and upgrading. In particular, electrolytic aluminum is transferred to clean energy regions based on the principle of equal volume reduction and replacement, promoting cooperation between local enterprises and optimizing industrial layout.
It is worth noting that although the development of China's non-ferrous metal industry has remained basically stable, it still faces many challenges. Zhao Wuzhuang, deputy director of the Policy Research Office of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, believes that, first of all, the quality and efficiency of nonferrous metal industry development is not high. The prices of major nonferrous metals continue to fluctuate. Supply and demand are difficult to support the continued rise in prices.
Secondly, enterprises lack independent innovation capabilities. In particular, key basic materials, advanced basic processes, industrial technology foundations, and core basic components are still the most prominent shortcomings restricting the development of the industry.
At the same time, with the continuous expansion of production scale, the contradiction between industrial development and domestic resource and environmental carrying capacity has become increasingly prominent. China's non-ferrous metal industry is facing the dual tasks of preventing and controlling new pollution sources and resolving pollution left over from history. Sustainable development is facing severe tests. In addition, the unreasonable industrial structure and unbalanced and uncoordinated development are still the main contradictions that restrict the high-quality development of the industry.
"China's non-ferrous metal industry is advancing in an intricate environment." Chen Quanxun said that in order to achieve stable development of the non-ferrous metal industry in 2020 and face downward pressure, the industry should continue to focus on expanding the application of non-ferrous metals to cultivate a new industry economy growth point. At the same time, we will focus on launching a group of SMEs on the road of "specialized, refined, special, new" development, and strive to take the lead in the global industrial strategic reorganization and integration.
